Origins and Inspiration for Sunnyville

I have a few videos to share.  These were made to promote my comics work, Sunnyville Stories.

Videos can be a handy tool.  Thanks to YouTube and being able to get a video camera for next to nothing nowadays, anyone can make a video and post it online.  This can be VERY handy for you artists and creative individuals out there to promote yourself.  But I digress.

BONUS!  Here’s another video of mine.  This is designed to promote the Sunnyville Stories trade paperback I plan to put out in 2012!

Ant Queen

Some of you may recall that I got a red Moleskine sketchbook recently.  I’ve been filling it up with drawings in pen and pencil.  This is one of the sketches I’ve done in it and I considered it bizarre.

Ant Queen

"Ant Queen", pencil drawing in sketchbook

This is a literal play on the term for the mother of all ants in an ant colony.  Check out the Wikipedia entry for more info.

This was my second attempt at drawing this queen ant.  I found it tricky to make a female insect look pretty enough.  It’s easier for me to make an anthropomorphic cat, rabbit, fox, skunk, squirrel, and so on, look pretty.

I’ll share more drawings with you from the sketchbook (but not all of them) as time goes on.

Help Swampfox Media

This is a call to action here.  Swampfox Media is an independent comics company based in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

They’ve launched a campaign on Kickstarter to aid in funding their work.

Please go on over and give what you can.

Moleskine Red Pocket Sketchbook

On a trip to Strand Bookstore, I bought a book about American Pop Artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987) and a Moleskine brand sketchbook.

Ink, Jar, and Scissors

I have another still life here, this time in my favored medium of pen and ink.

As I was saying, still lifes are a good way to practice your drawing.  You can find material to use all over your home.  Read the rest of this entry »

Janice

I have a few more drawings to share today.  This lady I’m going to introduce you to is a pretty redhead that I’ve created some years ago.  It was only recently that I gave her a redesign.  Her name is Janice.

This lady is named Janice.  I first created her back in 2002, just after I had gotten started drawing on a regular basis.  Read the rest of this entry »

My trip to Anthrocon 2011

Last weekend, I went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to attend a big event called Anthrocon.  It is indeed big.  If you want a general idea of the size of it, check out this video.

For the full scoop on the event, check out my post on the Sunnyville Stories blog.
