Review: Time-Life’s Mysteries of the Unknown

Today, I’d like to talk about one of my sources for research.  For my Von Herling anthology (as well as his original adventure), I read the original book of Dracula by Bram Stoker and watched vampire films to no end such as the various Dracula movies from 1931, 1979 and 1992.  Other horror comics like Hellboy were sources of inspiration.

While there’s nothing wrong with these, the genre of horror needs to be kept fresh so I decided to go do some research in books.  I did talk on my main blog about how handy libraries are for research.  One of the series I can recommend for anyone who writes horror (as well as fantasy, science fiction, paranormal or the supernatural) is the Mysteries of the Unknown book series from Time-Life Books.   Read the rest of this entry »

Sorry for being quiet

I must apologize to everyone for being so quiet.

I’ve recently moved to the state of North Dakota to find work while developing other ideas. In addition to my main work, Sunnyville Stories, I’ve been at work on other ideas.

I’ll have another post up soon talking about my latest creation.

Von Herling Status, Fiverr, and Elance

A few updates…first, the pencils for Von Herling, Vampire Hunter are two thirds completed.  I’ve pencilled a total of 80 pages out of 120.  Of course, I then have to go back and ink them all.  At present, it remains on schedule for its March 2014 release.

Second, I’m still got my gig on Fiverr going.  For only US$5, I’ll do a caricature of you.

Third, I’m now on ELance.  If you’re looking for freelancers for artwork, I hope you’ll consider me for your project.

Now taking private commissions!

Your attention please, your attention please!  I have a brief announcement to make.

As of this date of 1/30/2012, I am now accepting private art commissions.

My rates depend.  It all depends on what it is you want, how complicated the commission is, the time and resources necessary, and whether it’s in color.  Shipping and handling costs may also apply.

If you want color work done, that will cost more money.

If you are a resident of the state of North Carolina, you will have to add the applicable sales taxes (it will differ from county to county).

Anyone who is interested in a private art commission from me may contact me at my email, maxwestart@gmail.com

CAVEAT: I do reserve the right to refuse any commissions that may deal with certain taboo subject matter and that may violate the law.
